Students are expected to master overall features of images (color, texture and graphics), local features (SIFT and visual wording), features similarity calculation, graphic signal processing (convolution, filtering and encoding), feature dimension reduction, image mixture and transformation, images artistic drawing.

Computer Vision

Computer vision is to use computers to identify 3-D world in reality by use of graphics and graphic sequence. Its ultimate goal is to equip computers with vision.  This course mainly specifies basic concept and algorithms of computer vision, explain the basic problems and relevant solutions in computer vision, and to address several classical applications of these technologies with case study.

Digital Visual & Audio Processing

This course is to introduce analysis and processing techniques of digital visual & audio signals, with focus on video, speech and music. It consists of three major parts. The first one is video processing, including content and applications of video processing, video compression and decoding techniques, principles and applications of video structuring and non-linear editing. The second one is speech processing, including principles and modeling of speech, basic concepts and methods of phonetic time, frequency, cepstrum signal analysis, and applications of speech identification and synthesis. The third one is music processing. This topic will cover basic concept of music processing, and its related heated research areas and market trends. Students will opt for one topic out of three topics to complete a project, including  music production, music analysis and music retrieval.

Virtual Reality and Digital Entertainment

This course mainly introduces basic concepts and systematic framework of virtual reality, and its related software technologies and applications.
