Professor Ren Kui Elected as AAAS Fellow

On April 18, the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) officially announced its 2023 fellows. This year, 502 scientists, engineers, and innovators from 24 disciplines worldwide were inducted.


Founded in 1848, AAAS is the world's largest federation of scientific and engineering associations, as well as the largest non-profit international science and technology organization, boasting over 120,000 members from more than 90 countries. AAAS also publishes the leading academic journal *Science*. Since 1874, the AAAS Council has annually selected distinguished scientists from its membership based on their academic influence and scientific contributions, awarding them the lifetime title of AAAS Fellow in recognition of their remarkable achievements. Notable past fellows include Thomas Edison and numerous Nobel laureates.

Professor Ren Kui, Qiushi Chair Professor at Zhejiang University and an ACM, CCF, and IEEE Fellow, has long been engaged in the study of cyberspace security theory and technology. He is a globally recognized expert in cloud data security, as well as wireless and intelligent system security. With over 400 peer-reviewed publications, he has won more than 10 best paper and time-tested paper awards. His work has garnered more than 48,000 Google Scholar citations, with an H-index of 94. He has also been recognized as a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher for five consecutive years. Professor Ren has led more than 30 national and provincial research projects, including those funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the National Natural Science Foundation. His research has been featured by Xinhua News Agency, CCTV News, Science and Technology Daily, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Scientific American, and New Scientist.


Among his numerous accolades, Professor Ren has received two first prizes in natural science at the provincial and ministerial levels, the Guohua Outstanding Scholar Award from Zhejiang University, the IEEE CISTC Technical Achievement Award, the President's Distinguished Research Award from the State University of New York, and the National Natural Science Foundation Young Career Award. He currently serves on the Science and Technology Committee of the Ministry of Education and the Education Advisory Committee. Additionally, he holds leadership roles as Vice Chair of the IEEE Computer Society Fellows Selection Committee, Chair of the IEEE Information Infrastructure Innovation Award (ISI Award) review committee, member of the IEEE Communications Society Fellows Selection Committee, and nominee for the Kyoto Prize. He is also a Steering Committee member of ACM ASIACCS, an editorial board member of several prominent international journals, and chair of multiple academic conferences. Moreover, Professor Ren serves as Vice President of the Zhejiang Knowledge Association.
