The EECS Rising Star committee recently announced the 70 recipients of the "Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Rising Star" award. Among them is Liu Tiantian, a PhD student from Zhejiang University’s College of Computer Science and Technology and the State Key Laboratory of Blockchain and Data Security. She was chosen from a pool of 370 applicants and will attend the symposium in the U.S. on October 24-25.

The EECS Rising Star award aims to encourage outstanding young female and minority PhD students and postdoctoral researchers to pursue and develop academic careers. Liu Tiantian, a fourth-year PhD student at Zhejiang University, is supervised by Professors Ren Kui and Lin Feng. Her research focuses on human-centered computing and IoT security, particularly in the application and security of voice interaction technologies. She has made significant contributions to voice user interface systems, addressing challenges such as defending against malicious injection attacks and enhancing noise-resistant speech recognition.

To date, Liu has published 11 papers in top-tier conferences and journals, including IEEE S&P, USENIX, ACM MobiCom, and SenSys. Her work has earned her several recognitions, including the SenSys Best Paper Candidate Award, SIGMOBILE Research Highlight, and travel grants from IEEE S&P and USENIX. She also secured second place in the 2021 National AI Innovation and Application Competition. Additionally, she serves as a reviewer for journals such as TIFS, TDSC, TWC, IoTJ, and PeerJ.

In August, Liu traveled to the U.S. to participate in USENIX.

EECS Rising Stars is a symposium jointly organized by multiple U.S. universities to support young female and minority PhD students and postdocs aspiring to careers in computer science and electrical engineering. The symposium was first hosted by MIT in 2012 and has since been held at institutions including UC Berkeley, Carnegie Mellon, Stanford, UIUC, and Georgia Tech. The 2024 EECS Rising Stars symposium will gather top researchers in EECS from around the world for two days of discussions on academic career development. It will be held at MIT from October 24-25.
