Zhejiang University–LMU Munich Joint Symposium on Neuroelectrophysiology and Brain-Machine Intelligence
From August 13 to 14, 2026, the ZJU–LMU Joint Symposium on Neuroelectrophysiology and Brain-Machine Intelligence will be held at Zhejiang University.
The symposium is co-organized by the State Key Laboratory of Brain-Machine Intelligence, the Frontier Science Center for Brain Science and Brain-Machine Integration, and the Affiliated Mental Health Center of Zhejiang University School of Medicine. It will bring together experts and scholars from LMU Munich, the Institute of Psychology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Zhejiang University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Ruijin Hospital, East China Normal University, and other universities and research institutions to exchange ideas on frontier topics such as electrophysiology, brain-computer interfaces, memory and consciousness, and neuropsychiatric disorders. Research Professor Jiang Haiteng from the laboratory and Professor Tobias Staudigl of LMU Munich will serve as co-chairs.

Prof. Dr. Tobias Staudigl
LMU Munich, Germany
Professor Staudigl is a W2 Professor of Cognitive Neuropsychology in the Department of Psychology at LMU. His research focuses on the neural mechanisms of human memory and navigation. He has long used invasive and non-invasive electrophysiological techniques to investigate the role of subcortical structures such as the thalamus in cognitive processes. His work centers on major scientific questions including thalamocortical circuits, memory, and consciousness, and has yielded a series of internationally leading findings.
The symposium will also bring together experts and scholars from universities and medical institutions in China and abroad, including Xiongbo Wu of LMU Munich; Wang Liang of the Institute of Psychology, Chinese Academy of Sciences; Meng Jianjun of Shanghai Jiao Tong University; Zhang Chencheng of Ruijin Hospital; Pu Yi of East China Normal University; and Cao Liyu, Yang Yuxiao, and Lü Dian of Zhejiang University. They will exchange ideas on topics including brain-computer interfaces, detection of disorders of consciousness, single-neuron recordings, memory mechanisms, invasive brain-computer interfaces, neuropsychiatric disorders, and thalamocortical circuits.
The symposium will focus on frontier areas such as invasive and non-invasive electrophysiological recordings, brain-computer interfaces, and thalamocortical circuit mechanisms. Through international academic exchange and interdisciplinary discussion, it aims to further deepen collaboration between Zhejiang University and LMU Munich in electrophysiology and brain-machine intelligence and to jointly explore new directions in neuroscience and brain-machine intelligence research.
