User Experience and Product Innovation Design

User experience refers to psychological feelings established by users when using a product (including tangible and intangible products) or enjoying a service. It covers all the experiences arising from using products/services and users interaction. User experience and product innovation design is a comprehensive design that integrates many factors such as products, services, activities and environment. Each factor is based on demands, wish, belief, knowledge, skills, experience and opinions of individuals or groups.

This course is multidisciplinary. Apart from being human-oriented and technology-oriented, it is also design-oriented. Human-oriented disciplines include psychology, physiology, sociology, culturology, linguistics, philosophy and aesthetics. Design-oriented disciplines include industrial design, artistic design, digital media design and animation design. Technology-oriented discipline is mainly information transmission technology, which involves computer science, information technology, electronic techniques, network technologies, software engineering, human-machine interactive technologies and database. This course attempts to combine design methods, theories and case study to elevate user experience and facilitate product innovation.

Ergonomics and Innovative Design

This is a foundation course for students with major of industrial design. Its contents mainly involve methods to achieve human-oriented product design. The focus of this course is applications of ergonomics in product design and its latest development.

Human-oriented is the basic concept of modern design. By using basic principles of ergonomics, this course analyzes human factors in product design and incorporates those factors in the whole process of product development. With case study, it expounds on how to acquire basic data and apply them in solving real problems with ergonomics research. This course also elaborates barrier-free design, design for the seniors and universal design. It also specifies basic contents and requirements of the latest ISO13407 (standardization of people-oriented design process).

Integration and Creative Design

This course aims at equipping students with insights into user demands and marketing trends. Students will be able to identify opportunities to find niche in markets, guide product development in the early stage, and correctly utilize quantitative and qualitative research methods. Students will also be able to grasp relationship between product development, enterprise planning and brand management, and be able to build a flexible and efficient team.
