Discrete Optimization Team from ZJU CCST Wins China Operations Research Society Science and Technology Award

By

From October 18-21, 2024, at the 17th Annual Meeting of the China Operations Research Society held in Guiyang, the collaborative project "Resource Allocation and Task Scheduling Algorithm under Green Computing" between Professor Zhang Guochuan's team from the College of Computer Science and Technology, Zhejiang University (ZJU CCST) and Ant Group was honored with the "Operations Research Application Award" by the Operations Research Society of China. Additionally, Dr. Chen Lin, a researcher in the Hundred Talents Program, received the "Youth Science and Technology Award" for his outstanding achievements in algorithm research on classic combinatorial optimization problems such as knapsack, partitioning, and sorting.

In their deep collaboration with Ant Group, Professor Zhang Guochuan's team developed a combinatorial optimization model for cloud computing resource allocation, deployment, and dynamic migration, focusing on green computing requirements. They achieved an efficient solution method through breakthroughs in algorithm theory, which performed exceptionally well on the Alibaba Tianchi platform dataset and was successfully implemented in Ant Group's cloud computing operations. Dr. Chen Lin has dedicated extensive efforts to refining algorithms for fundamental combinatorial optimization problems and effectively solving integer programming with special structures. Notably, he established the additive combinatorial lemma and provided an approximate scheme with optimal theoretical time complexity.

Award Introduction:

The Science and Technology Award of the China Operations Research Society is presented biennially to recognize outstanding achievements and significant contributions made by Chinese operations research professionals in both theoretical research and practical applications of operations research methodologies. The Science and Technology Award comprises four categories: the Lifetime Achievement Award, the Operations Research Award, the Operations Research Application Award, and the Youth Science and Technology Award.

The College of Computer Science and Technology educates future leaders in computer science with interdisciplinary innovation capabilities to address global challenges in the AI2.0 world.
