Exchange Highlights | Cambridge University Winter Overseas Exchange Program 2025

By

From February 2 to 15, 2025, the Cambridge University Winter Overseas Exchange Program was successfully launched. The College of Computer Science and Technology selected outstanding undergraduate students to participate in this prestigious exchange.

The program, centered around artificial intelligence and advanced deep learning, took advantage of the world-class resources at Wolfson College, University of Cambridge, offering students an invaluable opportunity to explore cutting-edge fields, solidify theoretical foundations, and master advanced technologies. Over the two-week exchange, students learned from professors, actively engaged in classroom discussions, and gained a comprehensive understanding of the latest advancements in artificial intelligence and machine learning. They started with the mathematical principles of machine learning, moving on to classic algorithms such as regression and classification, and advanced models like neural networks and transformers.

With their newfound knowledge, students worked in teams to apply theory in practice, covering the full process from data preparation and parameter optimization to iterative learning and model training. Through hands-on programming, debugging, and running models, they successfully completed projects on tasks like planar point classification and intelligent translation. On the day of the project presentations, students showcased impressive teamwork and a strong research ethic, sharing their development process with detailed explanations. Their technical proficiency, practical approach to research, and innovative thinking earned high praise from professors and teaching assistants.

Throughout the exchange, students also had the chance to visit the Computer History Museum to explore the evolution of the information age. They further immersed themselves in British culture, exploring the streets of Cambridge, London, and Oxford, and experiencing the unique customs and traditions of the UK. Additionally, face-to-face interactions with engineers from labs and companies provided valuable insights into the future of AI across various industries. These activities not only enhanced their professional skills but also expanded their global perspectives.

After the exchange, all participants expressed how much they had gained from the experience. They felt their understanding of cutting-edge technologies had deepened, while their cross-cultural communication skills and innovative thinking in research had also improved. These insights will serve as a strong foundation for their future careers and inspire them to continue exploring and contributing to the field of artificial intelligence.

The College of Computer Science and Technology educates future leaders in computer science with interdisciplinary innovation capabilities to address global challenges in the AI2.0 world.
